Carbon Reduction

Our Commitment to Carbon Reduction

This page outlines our current emissions, our strategy to reduce them, and the actions we're taking to drive lasting change.

Commitment

Our commitment to carbon reduction

At Carmelcrest Construction, we recognise the urgency of climate action and are committed to reducing our environmental impact. We’ve begun measuring our carbon emissions and have developed a clear plan to reach Net Zero. This is a long-term commitment - one that will evolve with technology, best practice, and our business growth.

Baseline

Baseline emissions:
Where we started

We established our first emissions baseline across the 12-month period from September 2023 to August 2024. This serves as a starting point from which all future reductions will be measured. It captures all significant emissions associated with our business operations—both direct and indirect.

Scope
Definition
Emissions (tCO₂e)
Scope 1
Direct emissions (e.g., company vehicles, gas)
81.64
Scope 2
Indirect emissions (e.g., purchased electricity)
3.18
Scope 3
Other indirect emissions (e.g., business travel)
23.01
Total
107.83

This is our first formal measurement, and going forward, we’ll be tracking progress annually to ensure we’re moving in the right direction.

Targets

Our targets and timeline

While specific percentage reduction targets are still being developed, we’re aligning our approach with the UK government’s 2050 Net Zero target. Our goals include:

  • Annual monitoring and reporting of carbon emissions.
  • Establishing science-based targets to drive reductions year on year.
  • Reviewing and updating our strategy regularly as technology and best practices evolve.

We believe in transparency and will continue publishing our progress on this page each year.

What we’ve done so far

We’ve already taken important steps since setting our baseline, including:

  • Gaining ISO 14001 Environmental Management certification, which provides a framework for improving our environmental performance.
  • Enhancing internal awareness and systems to ensure environmental considerations are integrated into day-to-day operations.

While we can’t yet quantify the direct impact of these measures on our emissions, they lay the foundation for more measurable progress in the coming years.

Next

What we’re doing next

Looking ahead, we’re working on a number of initiatives to reduce our carbon output across all areas of the business. These include:

  • Establishing a dedicated Environmental Sustainability Team to drive accountability and momentum.
  • Reviewing our energy use and exploring ways to source renewable electricity across offices and sites.
  • Assessing the efficiency of our vehicle fleet and exploring low-emission alternatives.
  • Improving policies around business travel and commuting, with a focus on reducing unnecessary journeys.
  • Continuing our commitment to ISO 14001 recertification and embedding its principles into all projects.

These actions will be reviewed annually and adjusted based on measurable results and new opportunities.

Reporting and accountability

We’re committed to ongoing transparency. Our carbon data will be updated at the end of each reporting cycle and published here. Our leadership team oversees delivery of the carbon reduction strategy and is supported by our new internal environmental working group.

Our next review is scheduled for September 2025, at which point we’ll publish updated figures and report on progress against our goals.
