Carmelcrest were appointed by Cambridgeshire County Council to deliver a series of decarbonisation projects aimed at reducing carbon emissions and improving energy efficiency across a diverse portfolio of public buildings. The programme included schools, libraries, offices, and community centres, each requiring tailored solutions to meet both sustainability goals and operational needs.
The works were delivered across multiple live, occupied environments, requiring careful planning to minimise disruption to daily activities. Each building presented unique logistical and technical challenges, from heritage considerations to the integration of new systems within existing infrastructure.
Carmelcrest installed a range of low-carbon technologies, including air source heat pumps, solar panels, and fabric improvements such as insulation upgrades and thermal enhancements. Associated enabling works were carried out to support the installations, ensuring systems operated efficiently and in compliance with building standards. Collaboration with the Council and building users was central to delivery, with phased programmes and clear communication helping to keep facilities operational throughout.
The programme has contributed significantly to Cambridgeshire County Council’s decarbonisation targets, delivering sustainable improvements to public buildings while reducing long-term energy costs. The projects demonstrate Carmelcrest’s capability to deliver technically complex works that combine environmental responsibility with practical benefits for local communities.
