Overview

Carmelcrest were appointed by East of England Ambulance Service to undertake remodelling and refurbishment works across the entire first floor of Watford Ambulance Station. The scheme aimed to modernise staff facilities and enhance the station’s operational efficiency, while ensuring day-to-day services remained fully functional.

Scope of Works

The works involved a full strip out and the installation of a new refectory kitchen area, alongside the design and installation of new mechanical and electrical systems. New air conditioning units were introduced to improve comfort, firestopping measures were applied throughout, and all floor coverings and carpets were replaced. Additional works included the installation of new fire compartmentation and a full programme of painting and decorating across the station.

Challenges & Approach

The building remained fully operational during delivery, requiring careful phasing to ensure essential ambulance services were not compromised. To minimise disruption, works were scheduled flexibly, with out-of-hours activity where required.

Outcomes

The project was completed to a high standard, providing modernised facilities that support the East of England Ambulance Service in its essential work, while maintaining seamless continuity of operations throughout delivery.
