Overview

Carmelcrest were awarded the contract to construct eight sustainable beach huts at East Beach, Shoeburyness. From the outset, our team worked collaboratively with the client and design team to refine the original concept, applying our technical expertise to ensure practical buildability without compromising the architectural vision.

Approach

The huts were prefabricated in our workshop, enabling a controlled, high-quality build process. Using our bespoke delivery and installation methodology, the units were transported and assembled on site efficiently, reducing disruption to the seafront.

Sustainability

Sustainability was at the heart of the project. The beach huts incorporated Sedum Green Roof Systems to enhance biodiversity and provide natural insulation. Materials were responsibly selected and locally sourced, including recycled timber, plastic lumber, and pallets. These measures not only reduced environmental impact but also supported the local supply chain.

Outcomes

The project delivered eight durable, environmentally conscious beach huts that are now enjoyed by the public and celebrated as an exemplar of sustainable coastal design. The scheme achieved a 92% recycle rating and went on to win multiple innovative design awards, showcasing Carmelcrest’s ability to combine quality delivery, sustainability, and collaboration in construction.
