Carmelcrest were appointed through the Procure Partnerships Framework to deliver a major design and build project at a Special Educational Needs (SEN) school. The scheme centred on the demolition and replacement of the existing hydrotherapy pool hall, alongside the creation of new teaching and library spaces.
The existing hydrotherapy pool hall was demolished, including the removal of the pool tank fabric, filtration infrastructure, and the associated building to provide a clean canvas for re-build. New works involved the construction of a modern pool hall with a reinforced concrete pool frame, new filtration systems, and high-quality changing facilities. In addition, Carmelcrest delivered a new library and supporting teaching facilities, together with an upgrade of the incoming water and power utilities.
The works were carried out within a live school, with the site located in a courtyard at the heart of the campus and surrounded by a busy residential area. All operatives were DBS-checked, and the programme was carefully phased to safeguard pupils, staff, and neighbours. Eco-friendly M&E installations were incorporated throughout, including air source heat pumps for heating and ventilation, to ensure the building contributed towards the Council’s net zero targets.
The project delivered a modern hydrotherapy pool and new learning facilities, significantly enhancing the school’s environment and contributing to the local authority’s sustainability commitments.
