Queen Victoria House, an historic building that had stood unused for a number of years, was acquired by Redbridge Council to be transformed into the Council’s new headquarters. Carmelcrest were appointed to deliver the full refurbishment, creating a modern workplace that reflects the Council’s values while retaining the character of the building.
The project required an intensive refurbishment programme, incorporating structural alterations, the installation of new mechanical and electrical infrastructure and a complete architectural fit out. IT infrastructure was integrated to support modern ways of working, while high-quality finishes and layouts created a contemporary environment for staff and visitors.
Central to Redbridge Council’s mission is delivering social value for the local community. Working collaboratively with the Council, Carmelcrest embedded social value into every stage of delivery. Initiatives included the use of local suppliers and SMEs, apprenticeship and training opportunities, and community engagement programmes. As a result, the project generated more than £900,000 in measured social value, delivering a lasting legacy for Redbridge residents.
The successful transformation of Queen Victoria House has provided Redbridge Council with a sustainable, modern headquarters and delivered significant benefits to the community, combining technical excellence with genuine social impact.
